Finding healthy mayonnaise

The amount of fat that we eat is important, but so is the TYPE of fat that we eat. Nutrition guidelines suggest that we should choose more mono and polyunsaturated fats (like those found in oil, soft margarine, and mayonnaise) instead of saturated fats (like those found in butter and cream).

The two types of polyunsaturated fat which are essential in the diet are omega-3 polyunsaturated fat and omega-6 polyunsaturated fat. This means they must be eaten in our daily diet because our body cannot produce them on its own. Sources of omega-6 fat include canola, soybean, corn and sunflower oils. Sources of omega-3 fat include canola and flaxseed oil, walnuts, and fatty fish (like salmon).

Hellmann’s® is made with canola oil and is a source of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fat.
